ろくろで整形されたのちに石膏型で仕上げられる輪花皿、彫刻を施した石膏型に生地を押し当て文様を映し出させて装飾を施す陽刻、成形後に生地を削り出す面取りやしのぎ、の主な3つの技法が用いられた軽くて日常使いしやすい器です。
我谷（わがた）とは、石川県山中町の南西に位置し、昭和40年、我谷ダムの建設により水没した町の名前です。その土地で作られる盆には共通して特徴的な鑿（のみ）跡があり、「我谷盆」と呼ばれました。
