Mid-19th-Century British School Portrait Of A GentlemanThis charming mid 19th century British school portrait depicts a gentleman wearing a white shirt, black necktie and smart black frock coat. His style fits with the fashion of the later 1840s when facial hair became more popular than the earlier part of the decade. The work is unsigned but clearly by a competent hand. The brushwork has been laid down quite quickly in an effort to retain the sitters spirit. Its a little reminiscent of the English artist
