Sea Spaghetti

Sea SpaghettiSea Spaghetti Aberffraw BeachThis print captures Himanthalia elongata, commonly known as sea spaghetti. I've varied how I've printed the specimen, sometimes it may be printed in a flattened, straightened form that highlights its clean, graphic lines or left to retain its natural flowing shape, echoing how it moves in water. This variation speaks to the organic unpredictability of the material and is part of the evolving nature of the collection.

The print would be sent rolled in a poster tube

April 18th was Easter Monday and we took some family over to Aberffraw for a beautiful walk around the headland

It will be placed in tissue paper in a poster tube

After printing I then use the Urauchi method to apply backing paper to make the print frameable

There are 3 Sea Bass designs and 2 lobster

This print measures 35x33cm and is on Chinese Mulberry paper and has been mounted using the authentic Japanese wet mounting technique which uses a simple flour and water paste and requires a period of around 24 hours to dry and stretch

This process also deepens the tonal qualities of the sumi

This piece makes a powerful statement in any setting—ideal for collectors of fine printmaking

during an exceptionally low tide

my intention is not to record the specimen accurately or to make a record of my catch

This was not an easy subject I can tell you

I'm not sure if they will survive but I'm hoping they do
