Gyotaku Impression taken from the surface of a Large PrawnThis prawn was donated to me by my son. He's a chef and was preparing for a competition and had a load of prawns for a recipe which he didn't need. I've printed this on an A4 sheet of Chinese calligraphy paper using blue and green ink. It takes a long time to prepare and ink a prawn and then position it ready to print. So although it's a small print, a lot of work goes into it. Actually it's my go to fish for sessions with younger children as it's much easier to print from a flat fish than a round fish

The print is supplied unframed or mounted and is simply wrapped in an acid free tissue paper and posted in a tube

The print has been professionally framed by Bernard's Gallery in Llandudno

To make this print the paper has been printed on sixteen separate times

I've always worked from photographs since my time in university and I'm often drawn to the human form

ensures that each print is vibrant and long-lasting

The result is a thicker

The original fish was sourced frozen from a local fishing tackle shop on Anglesey

After the print is made it was then wet mounted using the Urauchi technique

and then I apply an acrylic ink that is both lightfast and permanent
