Menai Strait Lobster, Gyotaku Printed and Wet Mounted.This lobster was caught in a pot by a local fisherman here in North Wales. It was caught in the Menai Stait. Lobster are a challenge to print as they are so 3 dimensional. Its very tricky printing the legs and their antenna. This lobster is printed on Chinese mulberry paper measuring 69. 5x34cm. Printing is just the first part of the process. After printing, the paper is cockled and wouldnt lay flat in a frame. To achieve a flat print I use the

Not the easiest of things to print but worth the effort once I got the hang of it

I was attracted by it's distinctive scale and huge eye

This print measures 35x33cm and is on Chinese Mulberry paper and has been mounted using the authentic Japanese wet mounting technique which uses a simple flour and water paste and requires a period of around 24 hours to dry and stretch

each fish is printed individually so this is actually 10 individual prints on the same sheet of paper
