Gyotaku impression taken from the surface of an Anglesey CrabCrab is quite a difficult specimen to print from. Like a lobster it's much more 3 dimensional than a fish so there is a lot of work to do making sure things don't slip and slide around. This crab is printed on Chinese Mulberry Paper, measuring 50x34cm approximately. Framed size is 52. 5 x 44 cm. After printing, the paper is then mounted using the traditional wet mounting technique of Uruachi. For this I make a flour based glue and use this to bond the

permanent blue and gold acrylic inks on Chinese Xuan paper

It's printed on a Japanese paper which has been 'wet mounted' to a second piece of Japanese paper

This means that no two pressings will ever be the same so you are always guaranteed a completely unique piece of art

The print will also comes with a certificate of authenticity

Gyotaku process sees ink applied to the surface of the specimen and then paper is pressed onto the surface making an impression

It was caught by a vessel that is based in Mevagissey in Cornwall and then sent to Brixham to be processed

using the wheat paste is a ph neutral process and uses less man made chemicals

The print is made using the finest quality Acrylic ink and each colour layer has been added seperately so the colours remain seperate from one another

suggesting both the fragility and resilience of the natural world
