English School Regency Period Portrait Of A GentlemanThis early 19th century watercolour depicts a handsome young gentleman wearing a coat, white shirt and cravat. Hes standing before a tree with foliage perhaps on his estate. During the Regency period, men were expected to don a coat, waistcoat, and breeches (or pantaloons). Here, the gentleman appears to be wearing a frock coat, which came to the fore in around 1815 and tended to be worn as informal daywear. Held within a gilt frame and glazed.

Signed/dated in the lower right and held in a fine rococo revival gilt frame
