Gyotaku of a small Red Mullet from the waters of North WalesUnder the umbrella of Gyotaku there are many ways of practicing this technique. One method is Takukseikai I recently met a local marine biologist who said he might have some samples for me once they've served their purposes in the lab. When he messaged me to say he had a Red Mullet I was very excited. However I was not expecting this! With a body measuring approx 16cm by 3cm this this tiny mullet was stunning. The colours of the body are incredible

but they also serve as a powerful reminder of the incredible diversity and complexity of the ocean's creatures

I did do some hand painting on this one though

there is something so beautiful about them and they have been used in art and design for centuries
