IMPRESSION TAKEN FROM A MACKEREL BLUE AND GOLDThe markings on a mackerel are so distinctive, sadly they don't pick up when you try and print the fish so you have two options. Bass are my favourite fish to print the definition you get on the scales is wonderful

I've used a high quality acrylic ink

The sardine was sourced from an independent fishmonger who is a 10 minute drive from my studio

I've printed the same prawn here three times onto an A4 sheet of Chinese calligraphy paper using and dark blue and gold ink

The second would be to paint on the markings after printing

After the print is taken I then have to flatten the print using the Urauchi technique

In doing so you can remove all the creases from the paper and the second sheet bonds to the first making the print thicker and better for framing or mounting on board

The paper I work with is very thin so I need to do this process so it can be framed
