Dive! Gyotaku of a Sea Bass TailIt's been some time since I've done a tail print. I had a little commission and that is exactly what they wanted. Whenever I do a commission, I try and do more than one so that I'm always guaranteed that one of them will make it though the whole process of printing and wet mounting. On this occasion both survived. So this is a small print that will fit in an A5 frame. I'm supplying it in a mount with a backing board and sealed in a cellophane bag.

Here though I have applied the ink one colour a time building it up in layers

This Octopus was printed on a Chinese paper measuring 69x34cm and then backed with a sheet of Japanese Masa paper

I blend the ink as I apply it

Supplied rolled in a poster tube wrapped in acid free tissue

many people don't realise I'm working with an actual lobster and that this artwork is made by pressing the paper against the surface of the actual lobster itself

This is on Chinese paper measuring approx 30x30cm and has been mounted using the authentic Japanese wet mounting technique which uses a simple flour and water paste and requires a period of around 24 hours to dry and stretch

I do this using the authentic Japanese method of Urauchi

the artwork measures approximately 70 x 35 cm
